SCANVIEW 2015 installation information TABLE OF CONTENTS ----------------- 1. INTRODUCTION 2. INSTALLATION 2.1 INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS 2.2 COMMON MESSAGES DURING INSTALLATION 2.3 UNEXPECTED MESSAGES 3. CHECK VERSION 1. INTRODUCTION The old SCANVIEW consisted of two main components: - the Application Database - the Application Notes in PDF-format The new Scanview gets its application notes directly from Agilent.com's eLibrary server, that makes the program quite small in size. To give you access to all components, SCANVIEW needs the proper software for accessing these. These are - Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat (to display the Application Notes in pdf-format). The reader can be downloaded from the Adobe site at http:www.adobe.com - Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher (to display product information and hyperlinks to the Agilent Web site). Internet Explorer can be downloaded from the Microsoft site at www.microsoft.com Scanview handles the PDF files in a way that the Internet Explorer opens them via the Adobe Acrobat plugin, which is part of Internet Explorer. If this doesn't work, Scanview asks for an external PDF reader to use. Question: Do I always have to install all of this software to run SCANVIEW? Answer: You can choose to not install Adobe Reader or Internet Explorer, but this will mean that you cannot enjoy all features of SCANVIEW. Question: What if I already have another HTML-browser like Firefox ? Answer: If you don't want to install Internet Explorer because you already have another browser installed like Firefox, SCANVIEW will try to use this browser to display the HTML-files. It will not give you all the flexibility that SCANVIEW would give you with Microsoft Internet Explorer, like displaying multiple windows of product information. Question: What happens if I install Internet Explorer while Mozilla/Firefox/Opera/Safari is already installed ? Answer: You can install Internet Explorer without making it your default browser. 2. INSTALLATION The new Scanview is a portable application, that means you do not need to install it, you just copy the ScanviewPortable folder to anywhere on your system. If you are asked for a password to unzip the files, then use "scanview" without the quotes. Double-clicking the Scanview.exe file in that directory starts Scanview. If you want to have a shortcut on your desktop, you'll have to right-click Scanview.exe and choose SendTo - Desktop (create Shortcut). 2.1 MINIMUM INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 70 MB free disk space (depends on availability of necessary software components) Pentium 600 MHz will already allow a reasonable search speed. Internet Explorer Version 7 or higher with installed Adobe Acrobat Reader - any version, enabled for Browser use Scanview might work with older operating system also, if all necessary drivers are installed, but there is no guarantee. 2.2 COMMON MESSAGES DURING INSTALLATION None, as there is no need for an installation 2.3 UNEXPECTED MESSAGES Should you encounter unexpected messages that prevent you from a successful use of SCANVIEW, then please contact our Scanview experts in the CSD GLobal Technical Support Dept.
